Gabriele Gravina, the President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has threatened to suspend the whole season of Serie A, if any player tests positive for the Coronavirus. Gravina speaking to Rai Sport was categorical that he would not let the contagion to eliminate an entire generation of footballers.
“If a Serie A player were to test positive for the Coronavirus, we would not rule out suspending the whole season,” Gravina said.
Over 4,000 people have tested positive for the Corona virus in Italy, with at least 197 having died so far.
One of the conditions to cutback on chances of the disease rapidly spreading through stadia, is that all sporting events must be played behind closed doors until April 3, 2020.
Gabrile Gravina was elected as head of FIGC to replace Carlo Tavecchio who resigned after the national team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.
The Italian Serie A, has some of the world’s most popular players, including Cristian Ronaldo, who plays for Juventus.
