As the feared Boda Boda 2010 group of loyalists to Gen.Kale Kayihura crumbles, all eyes are on the future of Gen.Kayihura, who is the longest serving Inspector General of Police (IGP) Uganda has ever had.
Sources familiar with the recent arrests of his confidants in the force and now in the civil Boda Boda 2010 say the general who was once known for his unflinching loyalty to President Yoweri Museveni, could be on his way out.
“Kayihura went off track. He started well but along the way, he got misled by some of his people to collaborate with people who are most likely to bring him down,” a Cabinet minister who declined to be named told this newspaper.
While at the burial of the late Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi, President Museveni sounded out Kayihura, revealing that his intelligence sources had indicated that police had been infiltrated by criminals.
“If you do not sort this out, we shall take action,” Museveni warned.
Indeed action has been taken with the rounding up of several officers, many who now face charges at the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) court martial.
