Former Security Minister retired Lt. General Henry Tumukunde has applied for bail in the High Court Criminal Division.
Tumukunde through his lawyers Anthony Wameli, Alex Luganda and Godfrey Turyamusiima wants to be released temporarily pending conclusion of his cases in which he is jointly charged with treason and unlawful possession of firearms
The General, who was remanded to Luzira prisons on Wednesday, says he is ready to abide by the bail condition and will not interfere with witnesses and investigations.
Tumukunde pleaded not guilty to both counts, however, the court advised him not to take any pleas as regards to the treason charge because it is a capital offence.
Tumukunde’s lawyers say the former security minister is ready to prove his innocence.
Earlier this month, Tumukunde announced his plans to stand for the presidency. That was, perhaps, the beginning of his woes.
