Mbale District councillors have accused the LCV Chairperson Bernard Elly Mujasi of conniving with investors to grab District land.

Alfred Namasa the   Busiu Councillor says that Mujasi  claims to have attracted  investors to develop the land.

Namasa cites plot 10-12 on Independence Avenue in Mbale town which is now housing Mount Elgon Hospital.

He added that Mount Elgon Hospital which was given a 25 year lease for the land has acquired a title, an indicator that the land has been taken over.

“Such investors are using District land to acquire loans to run businesses,” he added.

The Councillor  wondered how a private valuer hired by Mt Elgon Hospital valued the land with its buildings at 1.6 billion and yet the District leased it out at 120 million shillings.

Henry Manana the Northern Division Councillor says Mujasi should explain how Mount Elgon Hospital acquired a title for land that is under the jurisdiction of the District.

Manana says they are not witching Mujasi but only aiming at protecting public assets from grabbers.

Mujasi however has dismissed the allegations as baseless.  He says “Mt Elgon Hospital was free to acquire a loan using the land.”

He added that he has no personal interest in that land but only agitates for more investors developing Mbale.
