Dennis Mbidde Sebugwawo, one of the leading contenders in the race for president of Sports Club Villa has appealed to club members not to elected Medard Lubega Ssegona as president of the club.

Mbidde who faces a stiff challenge from Ssegona says that his opponent is to immersed in opposition politics that would alienate NRM supporters from joining the club.

“You know that Ssegona is always attacking government, yet some NRM members are our supporters. We need to be very careful not to cause problems for the club,” Mbidde said.

In response to Mbidde’s claim, Ssegona told this newspaper that his rival was at one point campaigning on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket in Rubaga in the last election so he cannot claim to belong to NRM.

“I am not going to politicize Villa because as a sports team we all need each other. But my opponent has been on DP ticket and issued posters of himself in Rubaga. So he is being diversionary” Ssegona said.

SC Villa will elect a new president this Saturday and so far Medard Lubega Ssegona has presented a formidable challenge for the seat.
