The association is one of many stakeholders that shall meet with the committee, which is tasked with preparing the bill for its debate and subsequent voting in parliament.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2017 was prepared to amend among other provisions the age-limit for the presidency at elections. It also seeks to scrap the lower age-limit.
According to information posted on its website, ‘UMA is a national professional Association with the membership exclusively drawn from duly registered medical practitioners. It was founded in 1964 as a branch of the British Medical Association to cater for interests of medical doctors.’
The Association shall meet the committee chaired by Mr Jacob Oboth.
Other stakeholders lined up to meet the committee include, the Uganda Law Society, the Electoral Commission, the Law Reform Commission, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and MP Raphael Magyezi who tabled the bill.
