As the medical workers strikes enters its third day, different health care centres are beginning to feel the pinch of the strike.
In different parts of the country, patients lined up at hospitals only to be greeted by nurses and mid wives.
At Kisenyi healthcare centre, work was almost paralyzed as patients were stranded with no one to assist them.
In Soroti Regional Hospital, doctors left interns to do the work. Only the hospital administrator, Dr. Paul Ajuk was at his desk. The rest of the doctors did not show up. The same situation occurred in Fort Portal where only interns and clinical officers worked. In Hoima, Nwoya and Kitgum Hospital doctors only stepped in to handle emergencies such as caesarian operations with pregnant mothers.
In Kabale and Gulu, the doctors did not take part in the strike. They attended to work normally.
One doctor in Kabale who spoke to us on condition of anonymity said “we want to take part in the strike, but we also understand government’s position. We believe that they are working on our increments”. He did not specify who the ‘we’ could be.
