Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake applies for bail

The Mityana Municipality Mp Hon Francis Zaake Butebi who is incarcerated in Gulu prison on treason charges arising out of his alleged stoning of the President car in Arua, has applied for bail at the High Court of Gulu.

In his application, Hon Zaake, who states that be released on bail pending the hearing and determination of Criminal Case and cites about 10 grounds why he wants to be released.

These include having a fixed place of abode at Buye – Kikumbi Village , Busimbi Sub county ,Singo County, Mityana District, uncertainty of when his treason trial will commence, having substantial sureties and non-interference with investigations, among others.

“It’s in the interest of justice that I be admitted to bail as I enjoy a presumption of innocence. I am in a position where the commencement of my trial cannot be ascertained particularly in view of the commitment of judicial resources,” Hon Zaake states.

Zaake also said he is a law abiding citizen who meets the criteria of admission to bail and that once released, he would return to court to face trial as and when required.

To that effect, the applicant is not yet committed to the High Court for trial.

According to reports, the hearing of the same bail application has been fixed for March 4 at 9 am and court has since issued a production warrant to Gulu Prison prison officials to produce Zaake on that day.

The application comes at a time when Hon Zaake was arrested in Kampala on orders of the CID, charged for unlawful escape from custody in Arua and was again arranged in Gulu and charged again.
