Makindye West MP Ibrahim Kasozi has been appointed the new vice chairman of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase).
Kasozi who has been serving on the Presidential Affairs Committee replaces Moses Kasibante, the Rubaga North MP who had initially been appointed by FDC as Vice Chairperson but was designated to Appointments committee by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
FDC appointed Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe South MP as chairperson of Cosase replacing Abdu Katuntu, the Bugweri MP while Kasibante was replacing Anita Among the Bukedea district MP.
In a March 5 letter to the Opposition Chief Whip Semujju Ibrahim Nganda, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General Nandala Mafabi, nominated MP Kasozi to take up the slot that had originally been awarded to Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante.
“As you are aware, the designated Vice Chairperson of Cosase-Hon Moses Kasibante was designated to another Committee. As a party, we have no say on placements of Independents on Committees. To avoid a vacuum on the committee, we propose to replace Hon Kasibante with Hon Kasozi Ibrahim, “Mr Mafabi’s letter reads.
MP Ssemujju will now have to present Mr Kasozi’s name before Parliament for approval before he can officially take over, as required by the rules.
COSASE, an accountability committee of Parliament has until recently being scrutinizing the sale of defunct banks in Uganda. The new leadership of the committee assumed leadership last month.
The findings of the report were that the defunct banks were closed irregularly by the Bank of Uganda and that Bank owners should be compensated.
