MTN CEO Wim Vanhelleputte Deported, Reason Confirmed!

The government of Uganda has deported MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wim Vanhelleputte.

According to a letter signed by the country’s Internal Affairs Minister, Jeje Odongo, Wim has been deemed an “undesirable immigrant.”

The police spokesperson confirmed to this reporter in a phone interview that indeed Mr. Wim has been deported due to matters of national security.

Enanga added that there has been a joint task security team investigating Mr. Wim and the investigations have confirmed Mr. Wim to be an unwanted person in the country.

“Its true, Mr. Wim has been deported back to Belgium. We have been having a joint task security team which has been investigating the conduct of Mr. Wim and I can confirm to you that its matters of national security, as we talk now he is in the airport heavily guarded. By midnight he will be out of this country,” Enanga told this reporter.

Other reports say that Wim has been in bad terms with Anthony Katamba, the general manager in charge of corporate affairs.

The deportation document, which Monday Times has confirmed as authentic, was signed by Minister Jeje Odong.

The deportation order provides that Wim, a Belgian National, must be “deported from and remain out of Uganda indefinitely.”

“And I further declare that this order shall be carried into effect by the removal of the said Wim Van Vanhelleputte by deportation and while awaiting to be conveyed to the place of departure shall be kept in custody,” the order reads

The minister of internal affairs was not available for comment.

Wim is now the 3rd MTN senior manager to be deported due to matters of national security in a few days.
