President Yoweri Museveni has sent Inspector General of Police Gen.Kale Kayihura to meet Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga over military deployment at Parliament. Museveni’s dispatch of Kayihura came a few days after Kadaga wrote to him inquiring about how outside forces were deployed at Parliament without being summoned.

In her letter, she demanded for explanation and complained about unknown security agents gaining access to the house. She also wrote about the security forces being deployed around Parliament for days at the time the age-limit removal bill was to be tabled.

Since her letter, different sides of the political divide have asked questions about its timing and the motive. Notably Rubaga North MP and opposition stalwart, Moses Kasibante dismissed her letter as trying to save face. “She was fully aware about the events. She even proceeded to table the bill in the absence of suspended legislators. She cannot argue that she was not in the know about these events,” Kasibante told this newspaper.

After the incident, Gen.Kayihura said he was proud to have restored order in the house, which was about to generate into chaos.

The events at parliament have sent shock waves across the world, with many observers proposing that this was a reverse of democracy.
