On Friday, Catherine Kusasira’s “Tears of a woman” concert at Serena Conference Hall became very political after fellow artiste Ronald Mayinja sang a song titled “Bizeemu” in the presence of President Museveni who was the guest of honor.

The song accuses the NRM government of perpetrating human rights violations against the people of Uganda in a similar fashion like the past regimes.

In his song Mayinja highlights increasing insecurity, alleged nepotism, corruption in the country that he says are rampant.

In the song, he accuses government of taking a back sit on many of the issues affecting the people including youths unemployment and failure to provide social services on top charging exorbitant taxes on every item.

Mayinja also compares Museveni government to those of past leaders including a figure many Ugandans would rather not remember — the late president Idi Amin.

Commenting on popular song, Museveni said he has never killed anyone and that the current murders are being stopped.

Museveni explained that unlike in 1980’s, today the killers are individuals not the government in the power.

While addressing the revellers President Museveni cautioned musicians against misusing their talent to spread lies.

He urged them to use their God given talent to promote peace in the country.

“This is good for entertainment and business, but should never be to the detriment of strides made in bringing our country out being a failed state. For example, I disagree with one of the singers who was saying “Bizeemu”, as if to say that this NRM government is committing crimes against its people!,” he said.

He added: “Artists should use their talents in ways that do not sow divisions based on lies. The government of Uganda is working against all the threats and crimes against Uganda and her people.”

He however expressed his happiness upon seeing revellers enjoying the music show peacefully without interruption.

He further said that he is always happy to see Ugandans having a good time in a peaceful environment.

“This is what we have reaped from peaceful governance of NRM. NRM has brought for you peace that you are enjoying today in Uganda,” he said.

He added: “I congratulate you singers and artistes for taking the advantage and enjoying the peace we have in the country and developing your talents. If you are in a country like Somalia, you cannot have this,” he said.

Mayinja is among the musicians who recently announced that they would join politics come 2021 just like Bobi Wine.

Mayinja declared before a mammoth crowd at Bobi Wine’s Kyalenga concert in Busabalaba last year that he was to contest for Gomba East MP seat.
