Security operatives are searching for NBS journalist Solomon Sserwanja over unknown reasons.
Human Rights Network for Journalists Coordinator Robert Ssempala said security operatives on Wednesday night surrounded the home of Sserwanja.
“However he was not in the house and police have since arrested his wife Vivian Nakaliika Sserwanja,” Ssempala said adding that two other journalists working with British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) have been arrested too.
The arrested journalists include Kassim Muhammed (a Kenyan journalist working with BBC), Rashid Kaweesa and Godfrey Bandebye.
HRNJ says they contacted the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Moses Kafeero who said they will be issuing a statement regarding the matter.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has confirmed the development.
Solomon Sserwanja, a prominent investigative journalist, political reporter who worked at NTV Uganda for five years and currently working at NBS Television where he is holding the touch on polical reports.
It should be noted that December last year, President Yoweri Museveni described NBS Television where Sserwanja is an employee, as a bad television, which is not loyal to Uganda.
He was responding to a question from another NBS TV reporter, Joseph Sabiti, before asking them to stop misrepresenting the country.
“No, no. I know whom it is loyal to. And they must change because that game also is finished. The game of thinking that we (Ugandans) shall work hard and you parasites will go on misrepresenting our work,” the President told Sabiti.
“You don’t have that right. You have the right to report the truth, Okay? Better watch out,” cautioned the President.
It is not yet clear as to whether the latest developments are related to the President’s sentiments.
This is a developing story.
