Offices of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party in Kyenjojo district have been closed over rent arrears.
According to the Kyenjojo NRM chairperson Sam Magezi, the party needs to raise up to Shs 8 million that accrued from unpaid rent for three years and three months. NRM was renting the building at a cost of 200,000 Shillings per month.
The owner of the building, who prefers to only be identified as Juma, notes that he has been patient enough and will only open the offices after the arrears have been cleared to zero balance.
Magezi says that his efforts to secure the money from the NRM secretariat have so far yielded no results.
He says the office keeps important documents for the NRM party in Kyenjojo and is used as a centre for mobilizing support for the party.
This comes at a time when the party’s national chairman, President Yoweri Museveni is on a nationwide campaign to mobilise NRM supporters in preparation for the 2021 general elections.
