The local Communities in Nwoya District have  declined the proposed constitutional amendment of the article 102 (b) that limits Presidential age to between 35 to 75.

The controversial bill was tabled in Parliament  on October 3 by Igara West MP Hon Rapheal Magyezi which then sparked off a heated debate around the country.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga  forwarded the tabled bill to the Parliamentary Legal committee for review and also directed MPs to make consultations from their voters in their respective constituencies on whether the article should or should not be amended.

Hon Lilly Adong the Nwoya woman MP, on October 31st met with people at Anaka Town Council- Acholi Sub Region to take their view on the bill, vehemently, the locals opposed the lifting of the Presidential age limit.

Adong explained that citizens of Uganda have  a constitutional right under the multi-party dispensation to participate in the legislation process  of the country.

Adong who stood under an independent NRM ticket and retained her parliamentary seat has accused the NRM Party members of threatening her life during this ongoing debate of Presidential   age limit bill which she has also opposed.

“There were a lot of intimidation and threats on my life by  some members of NRM party and police not to oppose the bill” Adong adds.

Okello Picuk 73, a community Elder of Anaka Sub County says   Ugandans are tired and sick with Museveni regime and advised him to relinquish power to the next president.

“We are tired of President Yoweri Museveni and we want new president to take over, even the constitution states clear that whoever reaches 75 years, he or she stops being eligible to run this Country as President,” Picuk said.

Atimango Gloria, 76, of Koch Goma Sub County says lifting the age limit will cause panic and anarchy in this Country describing it as disastrous to the nation building, peace and security.

Anyeko Rose, resident of Anaka Town Council says, president Museveni has done enough for the country and he deserves to retire from the office so that his legacy remains to guide the Country.
