Ian Wright believes the time has come for Mason Greenwood to start ahead of Anthony Martial after another lacklustre performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United have failed to score in their last three Premier League games, losing to Liverpool and Burnley before a drab 0-0 draw with Wolves.

Martial has been guilty of missing some glorious opportunities during those fixtures and Arsenal legend Wright thinks 18-year-old Greenwood – who has 10 goals in all competitions this season – should be given the nod to start ahead of the France international.

‘I’d play him,’ Wright told Match of the Day. ‘Absolutely.

Wright ‘When you look at how Martial has played in that game, I would play him now, absolutely.’ Alan Shearer was also critical of Martial and called for him to do more. ‘There’s your centre-forward Martial [outside the box], no-one in the middle at all,’ said Shearer.

‘The ball gets worked down that left-hand side, not enough options in there – and that’s why, because [Martial] is hanging out there.

‘Got to do better, got to hold the play up better, bring people into the game. Too easily shoved off the ball. ‘Where are Wan-Bissaka’s options? They’re miles away. He’s got no options. They’ve got to come over.

Someone’s got to try and help him. ‘Eventually he takes a touch, and another touch, and another one, too many because there’s nothing on and he eventually gives the ball away. ‘He’s [Martial] got to offer more than today’s game.’
