Onduparaka has gone on the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) log after hammering Express 2-1 at their Wankulukuku backyard on Friday.
Alfred Leku and Caesar Okhuti scored for Onduparaka while Daniel Sserunkuma got Express’ consolation.
The victory for Onduparaka moves them top on 13 points while Express stumble to ninth on seven.
“Last season we drew here and so we made a strategy to go all out for a win this time round,” says Leo Adraa Onduparaka coach.
The Red Eagles began the game in confident style and showed why no visiting team had managed to score a goal at Wankulukuku this season, but there were no clear cut chances produced.
Although Viane Sekajugo and Rashid Okocha threatened at times, Onduparaka struggled to gain a foothold, and the first half ended goalless. Shortly after recess though, the deadlock was broken.
Aggrey Kirya forwarded a pass to Sekajugo whose pass found a well positioned Leku for a tap in. It was tough for the host team that showed far more verve than they did last season in the sides’ 1-1 draw at the same ground.
The team is the only club that has won four games in the first six matches, while Express has picked up just two wins.
