The famous dancing group Ghetto Kids has reached out to the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga seeking financial support from government for their welfare.
Dauda Kavuma, the ghetto kids group founder and leader, said the group faces hardships sponsoring its members to attend performances and events where they are supposed to be recognised.
“Many a times we have been called to receive awards or attend events but we cannot afford.”
Their Spokesperson, Patricia Nabakooza said that as a group they have managed to propel the country’s image which is that Uganda also has talent.
She said that dancing has helped them achieve a lot especially staying in school which was previously hard for them.
Speaker was pleased with their manager for picking the children off the street, nurturing their talent and taking back to school and promised to bring their request to the attention of the President of Uganda and Parliament
Popularly known as Ghetto Kids, these are formerly disgruntled children from Kampala’s slums.
They were brought together Kavuma and moulded into dance and music artists; with a dual goal of financing their education and well-being.
Over the last three years they have bagged international awards.
Among these is the AFRIMA 2017 in the US; Africa Entertainment Award 2016; the Gold Double Platinum; and the Teens Award in California, US.
“I have pledged to help them get audience with President Museveni so that they are helped further,” Kadaga confirmed.
