Police has asked the Bugiri municipality legislator Asuman Basalirwa to get an enclosed place for his victory party that is scheduled to take place on Saturday December 29th.
Basalirwa who won the Bugiri County member of Parliament (MP) seat with over 3928 votes against the likes of Francis Oketcho of National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Eunice Namantende of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
On 26th December, Basalirwa wrote to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) informing him of his intentions to hold his victory party at Hindocha Primary School play ground on 29th December to celebrate with his fans and to police to provide enough security for the function.
However, on Thursday 27th police responded the legislator through a letter claiming that they will not be able to give him enough security for the function since it will be held in an open place and most of the officers will be policing end of year parties. They advised him to get an enclosed venue such as a hall or hotel.
“This serves to inform you that due to the demands of policing the end of year festivals, police will not be able to provide adequate security for the event, such magnitude in an open ground and in such a location as you proposed. You are therefore advised to get an enclosed venue like a hotel or a hall,” Read the police letter.
MP Basalirwa says he has excepted to shift the venue to Busoga University premises claiming it is an enclosed place and can accommodate his fans, but the Bugiri police commander Jeff Buyungo insists the event should not take place.
According to Buyungo, police has been tipped that the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi wine will attend the function because he is some of the people that influenced the MP’s victory and currently he is not allowed to attend such functions.
However, Basalirwa vows to continue with the function claiming he has done all that police asked him to do.
