The Uganda Police Force has deployed heavily in Kampala City, in anticipation of the debate to amend the constitution and remove age-limit.

Patrol vehicles and other heavy duty equipment has been lined up on various streets in Kampala, as the August House prepares to convene.

Earlier, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa said that they had got some information that the opposition was mobilizing people to cause unrest in the city.

“We heard that they are planning to disrupt business activities. We have also heard that they have given people money to buy petrol and burn parts of Kampala City,” Mwesigwa said.

The officer added that police was ready for the eventualities and would not allow anything to go wrong.

“We are fully prepared to deal with any of these situations if they come up,” Frank Mwesigwa added.

Some journalists reported the presence of military police at constitutional square in Kampala.

Meanwhile Chris Obore, spokesperson of Parliament said that he was not aware if the matter of Article 102 B would be on the order paper because it is the prerogative of the speaker.
