Asan Kasingye the Police Spokesperson has today clarified on claims that President Yoweri Museveni was replacing Kale Kayihura as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with former Information Minister Jim Muhwezi.
It was alleged that Kayihura was to be appointed as the Uganda ambassador to the United Nations.
Kasingye, speaking to the press on Monday, stated that the police has not received any official communication about the reshuffle.
He added that he was not in position to respond to such claims, “We all know the appointments are made by the President. If you want to confirm the appointment, you don’t call the police PRO.”
“And where envoys are involved, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must be informed as well as the Speaker of Parliament who heads the Appointments Committee as provided for by Article 211 of the constitution,” he added.
The police spokesperson also cleared the media reports on the credibility of the press release that was issued by the IGP last week on his home security being tightened.
“The press release by IGP is very genuine and signed by him. I have seen that it was not on a headed paper; I agree and we are going to make sure in the future that all our communications are made on Police headed papers,” Kasingye said.
“We are not bothered by the rumors; we shall continue to do our work normally, the IGP is doing his work normally,” he added.
