Music Promoter Benon Kasenene (BK Afro Beat) has on his Facebook page, accused “fellow promoters” of receiving underhand cash from government as compensation for concerts they had organized with Singer Bobi Wine, but which were cancelled. BK who said he was currently out of the country claimed that his colleagues went behind his back and took money without his approval.

“Am the current sitting president of (FUPA) Federation of Uganda’s Promoters and Events organisers association, an organisation that groups together all Uganda’s music promoters, Event organisers and venue owners. In short an organization of all business transactors in the Entertainment industry. Mr. Musinguzi Abby also known as Abitex is my vice president, Mr. Juma Balunwya is the spokes person of the organization. Since am currently in Europe for a long time I delagated Mr Abby Musingunzi to act as the president deputised by Mr. Juma Balunwya.

I understand that some people masquerading as leaders of Music promoters went to Museven with a proposal to obtain money from him as a refund to promoters that lost money they had invested in Bobi Wine’s cancelled music shows. Museven paid cash 1. 2bns through the minister of culture. This money has been shared amongst guys who are closely working with Bobi Wine some of whom have been seen on TVs and Radios regularly shouting people power. Am shocked that none of these people on the list apart from only one person I know are music promoters and probably the woman who was seen on TV collapsing after receiving the news that police had cancelled her Bobi Wine show indeed the rest are masqueraders. Well, those in the struggle must prepare for very difficult times as we make the final push at a time when the dictatorship is making the last stand,” read BK’s post on Facebook last night.

A series of concerts that featured Bobi Wine were cancelled last month, forcing many promoters into losses.
