Sick of filling the limited space on your phone with apps, photos and videos? Sometime in the near future, your smartphone could ship with more than one terabyte (1TB) of internal storage and run 10 times faster than a standard memory card.
South Korean major Samsung has launched the World’s first 1TB Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) 2.1, for which the company has commenced the mass production.
The new 1TB UFS, powered by the company’s fifth-generation V-NAND, will provide users with plenty of smartphone storage without any additional memory card.
With 16-stacked layers of V-NAND and a new proprietary controller, the UFS will allow users to store up to 260 4K 10-minute long videos.
“The 1TB eUFS is expected to play a critical role in bringing more notebook-like user experience to the next generation of mobile devices,” said Cheol Choi, Executive Vice President of Memory Sales & Marketing at Samsung Electronics.
The UFS has a package size of 11.5mm x 13.0mm, much like the predecessor 512GB UFS, however, has two times the capacity of the predecessor.
Additionally, the UFS supports faster data transfer speed rated at 1,000 MB/s and features 10 times more read speed than a conventional microSD card.
The 1TB eUFS is expected to make its entry with the launch of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10 series, scheduled for February 20.
Furthermore, Samsung is expected to expand the production of its fifth-generation 512GB V-NAND for the new 1TB eUFS.
