Today we visited a wonderful school called Silverwells Daycare and Kindergarten Ntinda. We found the proprietor of the school, who shared information about it and why parents have come to love their services.

Our questions went as follows;

Monday Times: What do you have at Silverwells Daycare and Kindergarten

Proprietor Silverwells: We admit children from one to five years. We have playgroup, baby class, middle class and top class. Here we call them nursery, kindergarten and pre-primary.

One to 2.10 year olds basically come here for day care services, they are cared for, just like a mother would, they play, sing, dance, eat, nap and have fun. They majorly learn through play as the teachers nurture them.

Nursery class(3 year olds), they begin learning the first group of jolly phonics (a system of reading), numeracy, nature studies and creative art.

Kindergarten class (4 year old), they start reading, drawing, painting and writing.

Pre-primary class,(5 year olds) they start reading simple short narratives, poems, tongue twisters, rhymes, they count, do more numerical work. They do nature studies and creative arts. They take books home for reading.

Monday Times: How different are you from other schools of this kind?

Proprietor Silverwells: We are a highly motivated staff, with experience from both, Uganda  National Curriculum and British International Curriculum. We are here to provide the best service children and parents need especially in this era where house maids are not trusted.

The school environment is green and safe with adequate play equipment for the children to explore during play break times.

It is spacious so the children are not squeezed and can make use of the compound.

It is near the road (Ntinda-Nakawa road) so for parents who are going to work, it is easy to drop and pick the child on the way.

All children are served a hot lunch at midday. They do have snack breaks in the morning at 9:30 am and in the afternoon at 3:30 pm after napping.

Monday Times: What are your working hours?

Proprietor Silverwells: By 6.30 am we are open. We close by 6 pm. The children are recieved from at 7 am and they leave from 3 pm – 5 pm. However if a parent is held up, we stay with the child  until 7 pm.

Monday Times: If I am far away and want to register my child can you send someone to me?

Proprietor Silverwells: All registration is at the school because we want the child and the parent to get to know the school. It is also easier because many people tend to register at the same time. It is good for networking between parents and children.

Monday Times: How are your fees like?

Proprietor Silverwells: The  fees are affordable and they have been made in a way to reflect the services that we provide

Monday Times: How about scholastic materials do you provide?

Proprietor Silverwells: They find all the scholastic materials at the school. It is therefore easier for the parents to bring the child and find everything here.

Monday Times: Do you have Games and Sports?

Proprietor Silverwells: We have games and sports. We have different equipment for games and sports.

We do have swimming. Next year we are introducing ballet for our children.

Monday: What advice do you give a parent who is trying to take a child to school for the first time?

Proprietor Silverwells:  They should know about the child and inform us about them. We need to know the details of the child, the characters, their likes and dislikes and so on. We give them a form to fill, so that we are able to capture these details. It helps us to serve the child better.

Monday Times: Where are you located?

Proprietor Silverwells: We are in Ntinda on Plot 117 Ntinda-Nakawa Road

Monday Times: What are your phone numbers?

Proprietor Silverwells:  0772433260 (Whatsapp)/0772856396/0701856396
