Erisa Ssekisambu of Vipers

Soana overcame the resignation of Coach Shafik Bisaso to hold Vipers 1-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium in Azam Uganda Premier league on Wednesday. Celebrated by the visitors Soana, the result only put further pressure on Vipers coach Miguel Da Costa following massive recruitment in the off season.

The hosts took the lead midway the first half albeit in controversial circumstances. Erisa Ssekisambu fired the home side into the lead on 21 minutes from a penalty kick. The earlier attempt by pacy winger cum forward Milton Karisa was saved by goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa who dived to his left to stop the seemingly weak shot.

Erisa Ssekisambu took over the duties, scoring his first goal of the season. Three minutes into restart, the visitors resumed played an energized entity. Vipers started using long range efforts with Tom Masiko and Nicholas Wadada having their shots saved by Mutagobwa.

The host technical bench of Miguel Da Costa as well as the Edward duo of Golola and Ssali introduced Steven Mukwala, Baden Mujahid and Ashraf Mandela for Mbayi, goal hero Ssekisambu and Moses Waiswa respectively.

The Soana coach David Katono Mutono called off Davis Ssali for Allan Kayiwa with 20 minutes left on the clock. Injured Buyala then paved way for the vastly experienced Farouk Wejuli Osama inside the final 5 minutes of the game. Vipers only gained one point to move them level on 11 point on the log with leaders Kirinya- Jinja after six games. Soana meanwhile picked their second draw of the campaign to move to five points.

With a string of poor results, there is pressure on Miguel Da Costa to perform, or be shown the exit, sources at the club say.
