Following the deportation of 3 foreigners over matters of national security, police has cautioned Social media users and bloggers against fabricating reports on the ongoing MTN investigations.
According to the law enforcement agency, several individuals have created sensational stories aimed at steering speculation in the media which is misleading the public.
Police mouthpiece CP Fred Enanga, on Monday warned that if the authors of such reports don’t stop and desist from issuing opinions about the investigations, they can easily endanger national security.
He revealed that individuals writing sensational social reports on the ongoing investigations are aiming at dragging Uganda into a diplomatic crisis with its ally countries.
“We would like to call upon the media and the public at large, to desist from reporting, publishing and disseminating information on facts that are distorted as this can jeopardise investigations and also harm Uganda’s national security,” Fred Enanga said.
“We do reiterate our commitment to promoting the prevailing stability and peace of the country and further urge all members of the public that it is everyone’s responsibility to safeguard the security of the country by preventing and reporting any suspicious behaviour that would put the lives of all Ugandans at risk,” he added.
He strongly refuted allegations that the investigations have sparked off a crisis between Uganda and Rwanda, saying that “That’s not true and baseless.”
