Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarterfinals:

Full time: Proline 1-1 SC Vipers

After Extra time: Proline Fc 2-1 SC Vipers

Proline ejected last year’s finalists SC Vipers out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after putting up a magnificent performance at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Ibrahim Bunyo’s extra time header from a well-crafted cross from Hakim Kiwanuka ensured that the Big league side proceeded to the Semi-finals of the Cup.

It was the hosts that opened the scoring through winger Noordin Bunjo 6 minutes to the half hour mark.

Vipers levelled matters through skipper Tadeo Lwanga in the 78th minute before the aggressive midfielder got substituted with an injury moments before the final full time whistle.

However, the StarTimes Uganda premier league defending champions could have forced the game into penalty shootouts through Moses Waiswa’s curling last-ditch well struck free kick which kissed the outside of the post.

Vipers’ exit implies that none of last year’s finalists will return to the podium after KCCA FC were eliminated much earlier in the round of 32 by a resilient Tooro United.

Proline joins Express Fc, Bright Stars and Kyetume in a semi-final cast that consists of unfamiliar faces at this stage particularly for the past couple of editions.

The result also, now highlights how intense the Uganda Premier league title race has become with the top two favorite teams struggling to book the only available one way ticket to continental football.

Semi Finalists

Bright Stars

Express FC

Kyetume FC

Proline FC

The draws for the semi-final will be held next week.
