State House has cautioned the public against conmen who allegedly demand money to arrange meetings for them with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni or secure a State House Scholarship.
The caution comes after the arrest of Alex Wasubire 45, a resident of Mbale who allegedly conned 1.9 million shillings from a university student.
Wasubire 45, has been detained at Mbale Central police station for allegedly swindled money from a one Connie Neumbe a student of Islamic University in Uganda-IUIU promising to secure her a State House scholarship.
Elgon Police spokesperson, Robert Tukei confirms this, adding that Wasubire alleges that he worked with the State House scholarship desk and was looking for people to offer the scholarships.
He allegedly obtained shs1.5million from Neumbe’s brother, as Kenneth Gizamba, both residents of Bugawola village, Bumumulo parish, Zesui sub-county in Sironko district, as part payment to facilitate in securing the scholarship.
It’s reported that Neumbe through the Resident district commissioner and the district woman MP-Sironko District Florence Namboozo had applied to President Museveni, for the scholarship, according to the letter dated March 20 2019.
Kepher Nayepe, the Anti-Corruption Coalition coordinator-eastern region said that the suspect was arrested when he was called to pick the remaining balance of 400,000 shillings.
