Edrisa ‘Torres’ Lubega scored the only goal of the game as Proline FC edged Onduparaka 1-0 in the Uganda Premier League game played at Lugogo on Wednesday afternoon.
The striker who came off the bench curled home the wining goal from a well drilled free-kick with 15 minutes to play in the game.
Proline miserably lost their league opener 3-0 to Mbarara City at Luzira Prisons grounds whereas their counterparts were already awarded 3 points after Police failing to honor the fixture.
Onduparaka struggled to create anything in the final third with only Ceaser Ochuti being their bright spark.
Onduparaka’s first shot on target came in the 16th minute as Denis Andama shot straight at Hassan Matovu in the Proline goal.
Proline were looking the better side and created the best opening of the half as Bright Anukani found Leku unmarked in the area but the striker headed over.
Leku then drilled a low cross which required only a telling touch but it was missed by the on-rushing Hamis Diego Kizza.
The last chance of the opening half fell to Richard Ayiko but his rebounded effort, after Matovu had spilled Vitalis Tabu’s free kick, went wide of the target.
Early in the second period, the returning Torres was introduced in place of the ineffective Leku.
Barely 10 minutes after coming on, Torres made impact.
The forward who has spent the last two years on loan in Europe, acrobatically met James Begesa’s cross but his overhead effort brushed off the bar and out for a goal kick.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, Proline held on to register a first victory of the current Uganda Premier league season.
For Onduparaka, it is their first loss of the season having defeated Police FC by forfeiture after the Cops failed to turn up for the opening games.
