Mityana municipality MP Francis Zaake is admitted to Naguru based Iran-Uganda hospital after collapsing while in detention at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka.
Zaake was arrested on Sunday evening in Mityana district for allegedly defying presidential directives on the distribution of food to members of the public.
He had been in Police cells at Special Investigations Unit in Kireka was on Wednesday evening rushed to hospital by police after his health started deteriorating.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that Hon. Zaake had flouted measures and guidelines of the Covid-19 national task force, led by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, on food distribution to the vulnerable people.
Legislator Zaake triggered police’s arrest after he posted on social media several kilograms of rice and posho packed in polythene bags ready for distribution to his constituents.
After his arrest, security first detained him at Mityana police station before they transferred him to SIU Kireka for safe custody under tight security.
A
fter receiving information that Mp Zaake was in poor health conditions, key opposition figures in the country like Kizza Besigye, Bobiwine, Mp Paul Mwiru visited the legislator and started demanding for his immediate release from police cells.
“Offenders must be pursued. Hon Zaake’s violent arrest & torture followed the information that he was distributing food to his neighbours in Mityana which was a good cause because he was rescuing starving Ugandans who have been neglected by this government” Besigye said.
