Two people have died and 11 others injured following a head on collision involving a trailer registration number UAY 632J and Toyota Hiace number UBS665H along Kampala-Mityana highway.
The accident occurred this morning at Kiweesi village in Buloba in Wakiso District. The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, says the accident occurred when the driver of the Hiace tried to overtake a Raum and rammed into a speeding trailer.
Owoyesigyire identifies the deceased as Godfrey Ndaula, the Hiace driver and his co-driver Ssempala. Six of the injured have been identified as Gerald Mulindwa, Oliva Nantambi, Margret Nakanjako, Jackie Nakalema, Namutebi and Samuel.
Police says the truck driver escaped from the accident scene and is still at large. Road accidents killed 3193 people in 2018. The most heart wrenching accidents were that of Gaaga Bus that claimed 22 passengers and another in Kapchorwa on December 8th, which claimed 24 travelers.
