Two people in Dokolo district have been arrested for allegedly impersonating Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers.

The duo identified as Willy Okello, 28, a resident of Kaberamaido district and Patrick Odongo, 21 a resident of Aweingo village, Minakulu Sub County in Oyam district.

They were arrested on Tuesday afternoon following a tip-off from residents.

One of the suspects is a resident of Kaberamaido District while his colleague hails from Aweingo village, in Oyam District.

Mr Lawrence Egole, the Dokolo Resident District Commissioner, said the suspects have been staging night roadblocks on Dokolo – Amolatar road.

He said the suspects were found in possession of camouflage jackets, security boots, a motorcycle and fish.

“They had some good amount of money but didn’t have identification documents,” Mr Egole said on Wednesday.

Jimton Aguta, the Dokolo District Police Commander says the suspects are being held at Dokolo CPS pending further investigations.

Aguta says that the suspects have been posing as UPDF Marine officers to extort money from fishermen.

“Many unscrupulous people have now taken advantage of the on-going UPDF Marine operation on Lake Kyoga to extort and defraud traders who are involved in illegal fish trade,” Aguta said.
