Two Ugandans identified as Willis Herbert Binsiima and Charles Kule were shot dead in South Sudan by gunmen believed to be of the Dinka community.

The shooting happened in Apet, Western Lake State in what has been termed as revenge killing.

Both were teachers at Hope and Resurrection Secondary School, Atiaba and former old boys of Mbarara High School and Nganwa High School respectively. They were in the company of a local head teacher of the school, who was spared.

Sources say that prior to the shooting, an unidentified vehicle with a foreign number plate knocked a Dinka man dead at Tikic in South Sudan. The enraged Dinka gathered on the road, barricading it and started looking out for any vehicle with a foreign number plate.

The source said when the Land Cruiser carrying the Ugandans approached the spot, it was stopped by armed Dinka. The three occupants were pulled out of the car and upon identifying the two Ugandans; they shot them dead on the spot. But the head teacher, a South Sudanese citizen, was spared.

The bodies were then taken to Diocese of Rumbek.

According to locals, this is not the first time in Western Lake State that teachers have been murdered innocently.

“It happened some years back when a candidate student was suspended and told to appear from home to do exams. He, however, brought the gun to the school and shot teachers, killing some leabing many wounded,” a one Malou Mabor Matot said.
