Reports coming in from Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) show that several employees may lose their jobs after harrowing interviews were held last week. According to a source at Broadcasting House, the official location of UBC, the interviews were first conducted with staff of the corporation before external applicants are interviewed.

As per good human resource practice, the staff of UBC were told to apply first for the positions that they wanted to occupy in the revamped corporation. They were then shortlisted and invited for interviews.

Surprisingly some of the interviews took only 5 minutes, which made some staff think they were done as a formality. One interviewee for a sensitive post at the corporation sent to us a query as to whether these were actually interviews or a ploy to get rid of staff.

“Why is it that some of us were interviewed for just five minutes others ten minutes only, do you think it means something bad?” One whatsapp message to us read.

UBC has been dogged with several controversies over the years. But with the coming of Minister Frank Tumwebaze at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) signs are that the corporation is headed for the better. An extensive restructuring was undertaken and more funding is expected to come from government to improve the corporation’s operations.
