Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued  a directive to NBS  NOW TV program on Wednesday  on allegations of breaching the minimum standards of broadcasting.

This suspension comes after a meeting between the TV station and UCC where NBS was handed a directive, which partly read, “the final warning was issued to NBS television over repeated breach of minimum broadcasting standards.”

According to the statement, the producer whose names are not yet disclosed “carried content that is offensive and contrary to the minimum broadcasting standards”  during the NBS NOW program on Wednesday 24th.

This suspension comes after Busongora North MP William Nzoghu ‘abused’ the president in luganda on a live broadcast. This was during a press conference at parliament where some members of the house were declaring returning of the 29m that was given to each meant for age limit consultations.

NBS was given 48hrs to submit to UCC a copy of the subject show.

“The Commission shall not hesitate to take further enforcement measures including suspensions of the broadcasting license,” said Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi the Executive Director of UCC, if NBS fails to do as directed.

Mutabazi says the suspension is intended to provide room for investigation.

“In order to allow the Commission to thoroughly investigate the substance of the said complaint, NBS Television is hereby DIRECTED to immediately SUSPEND the producer/news editor for the said edition of News now program,” reads his statement.

A number of radio stations have been affected because of breaching broadcasting standards, the most recent victim being Kanungu Broadcasting Services, where a radio presenter and a producer were suspended on orders of the commission.
