Uganda to host AFCON 2020 Beach Soccer

Uganda will host the 2020 African Cup of Nations, Federation of the Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Engineer Moses Magogo has disclosed. The Sand Cranes which is the national team representing Uganda in beach soccer will qualify automatically for the competition.

However the 2020 edition of the AFCON beach soccer will take place in Egypt.

This decision was endorsed by the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Accra Ghana, Magogo is the head of the Futsal and Beach Soccer committee, and he also doubled as the representative of Uganda in the meeting

Magogo thanked all Ugandans and the government for the support which has led to the growth of beach soccer and the tremendous achievement FUFA has seen in 2018.

The FUFA president also highlighted the many achievements Uganda has gone through football ways on Thursday in a press conference held at FUFA house.

These achievements include; the return of the Crane to AFCON, 10 billion sponsorship from the central government, Denis Onyango and the crane being nominated again in the CAF awards, among others.

However FUFA has better plans for 2019 and these include; improving on the governance, play grounds, and introducing a new tournament for primary schools around the country.

During the AFCON 2020 Beach soccer finals, Uganda expects to host over thirty nations of Africa which means a lot to the economy of the country.

“Our efforts in developing the game in Uganda are reaping fruits. We have led on all fronts in the region in developing this game, thank you CAF for the opportunity, we will not dis appoint you” said Justus Mugisha the FUFA first vice president.

The Uganda Beach Soccer Association chairman Deo Mutabazi says it’s an honor to host such an event and he sends a message to the visiting teams to prepare enough because they will face a tough competition from the home team.
