Mystery still surrounds the whereabouts of Mr Andrew Mukasa, the proprietor of Bajjo Events and Marketing Agency Limited, who was Saturday brutally dragged from a press conference at Centenary Park into a waiting van, by armed security operatives.
The Special Forces Command (SFC) have distanced itself from the abduction of Bajjo.
He was jointly addressing a press conference with fellow music promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex, the proprietor of Abitex Promotions about their planned ‘People Power’ marathon when the security officers picked him up and led him to a waiting van registration number UAT 511C.
According to the promoters, the marathon is set to be stage across the region in solidarity with Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who has had his music concerts cancelled or blocked by the state.
The arrest, which was captured by journalists who were covering the presser, went viral on the social media. Some people pointed accusing fingers the SFC and Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
However, SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara and Defense ministry spokesperson, Brigadier Richard Karemire dismiss claims that Bajjo was kidnapped by security operatives under their respective units.
“I am not aware,” Brig Karemire said.
Similarly, Maj Omara took to his Twitter handle and dismissed the accusations, describing the claims as malicious. He urged the public to disregard the stories of Bajjo being abducted by SFC.
“There is some news making rounds on social media about an alleged arrest of Mr Andrew Mukasa a music promoter. SFC has not carried out any operation in regard to what is being peddled. This is baseless and malicious. Please ignore it with the utmost contempt it deserves,” Maj Omara said.
Fresh information indicates that the number plate on the vehicle that was used to pick Bajjo is the same number that was on the vehicle the deputy inspector general of police, Maj Gen Muzeeyi Sabiiti used when he appeared in parliament in March 2018 for vetting.
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) clarified back then that UAT 511C that was on Sabiiti’s Land Cruiser belonged to a Spacio vehicle in the name of Abdullah Trading Company.
This isn’t the first time security operatives are on spot over kidnapping suspects. Last year, several people were grabbed by plain clothed security operatives and bundled into vehicles with fake number plates.
The country was equally stunned by the video of the brutal arrest of Yusuf Kawooya, a member of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) who was kidnapped and battered with gun butts by plain clothed security operatives in front of Christ the King Church on Colville road.
