Early reports on Monday morning indicated that the Kyadondo East Legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine who a couple of days attended a conference of the Zimbabwe opposition party known Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was arrested by the security officers in Zimbabwe.
People Power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has however rubbished the rumours of their arrest.
Ssenyonyi who used his official social media platforms said that the rumours that Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was detained at Robert Mugabe International Airport a few minutes after arrival in Zimbabwe on Friday are untrue. He, however, said that upon arrival, Zimbabwean government officials questioned them for a while and then let them go to a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) rally.
The two People Power cadres travelled to Zimbabwe last week on an official invite from Mr Chamisa Nelson the chairperson of MDC to attend a rally organized by Zimbabwe’s opposition party.
It was reported that the Kyadondo East MP was not arrested alone, they alleged that he was arrested with other leaders who included Owino Babu, the Kenyan legislator for Embakasi and Kenyan opposition for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary-General, Mr Sifuna Edwin.
Hon Kyagulanyi made it to the rally and in his Speech as the chief guest, highlighted the unity between Uganda and Zimbabwe through blood, history and destiny.
“We are already united by blood, by history and by destiny. But yet again, we are united by the common enemy called dictatorship,” he said.
