Antonio Conte who was the most successful manager in the premier league last season is on the verge of being sacked after a loss to West Ham diminished any hope of Chelsea to contend for the title.
West Ham managed by David Moyes beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday. The result widened the gulf between Chelsea and both Manchester City and Manchester United.
Immediately after the match, Conte said it was sad to know that it was impossible to catch up with the title. It was Chelsea’s fourth loss of the season.
“To talk about the title race after a defeat I think is a bit strange, especially as this is the fourth defeat this season in 16 games. When you have this task, it is impossible to think that you are in the title race.It is impossible. My experience is this, if you want to stay in the race for the title, in the first part of the season you can lose once, twice,” Conte told a news conference after the match.
The West Ham goal came from Marko Arnautovic six minutes into the game.
Antonio Conte finds himself in a situation like that of Jose Mourinho, who won the premier league in one season but went to near relegation in the next season for which he was sacked.
