Afro dancehall Singer YKee Benda yesterday inked a deal with controversial Development Channel for an undisclosed sum of money. The deal will see the ‘Malaika’ singer endorse the company and promote its activities in the country.
“Ykee Benda is super excited by these developments, because it does not only bring much needed extra cash, it raises his profile from almost upcoming to the club of established artistes,” a close pal intimated to this newspaper.

The deal with Development Channel comes hot on the heels of the recent controversy surrounding YK Benda’s World Cup performance in Russia, that did not happen. For months, the singer was alleged to have told anyone who cared to listen that he was going to be on the largest stage of football’s most popular tournament. This became a no-show. He instead resorted to blaming Fake News Media for coming up with sensational stories about him that were not true.
Since it came to Uganda, Development Channel has not had an easy rise. It has failed to create an identity of purpose and there are concerns that while it says that it is here to fight poverty, some of the things it sells are way above the affordability of the common man.
